Lead Engineer Elektrotechniek

  • On-site, Hybrid
    • Amstelveen, Noord-Holland, Netherlands
  • Operations

Drive the energy transition as a Lead Electrical Engineer, from site exploration to the realization of large-scale energy storage projects in the Netherlands.

Job description

Make an impact on the energy transition – from idea to realization

At GIGA Storage, we’re building the energy infrastructure of the future. With large-scale batteries and smart IT solutions, we ensure a stable, sustainable, and efficient electricity grid. To further develop our Dutch projects, we’re looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer with experience in industrial installations (MV/HV) and a sharp eye for both technical detail and economic viability.

Your Role

As a Lead Electrical Engineer at GIGA Storage, you play a key role in the success of our Dutch energy storage projects. You are involved from the very first exploration of a potential site. You assess the technical suitability, advise management on economic feasibility, and lead the design phase of our Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). You are responsible for ensuring technical quality, standardization, and feasibility within financial boundaries. You oversee the entire engineering process up to the project’s financial close.

You work closely with external partners such as civil engineers, electrical designers, and architects. You evaluate their design proposals, make final design decisions, and ensure that GIGA Storage’s technical standards and strategic goals are met.

While you operate independently in the Netherlands, you collaborate functionally with the Belgian engineering team (4 FTE), ensuring consistency in standards, processes, and technical choices. Communication lines are short. During the construction phase, your role becomes more supportive: you act as a technical sounding board for the implementation team and translate practical experience into improved designs for future projects.

In short: you combine technical depth with leadership, standardization with creativity, always keeping the broader project goals in sight.

What Will You Do?

  • Provide (functional) leadership for the technical design process of new energy storage sites in the Netherlands.

  • Evaluate external designs and make decisions based on both technical and economic considerations.

  • Develop and implement technical standards and reusable “building blocks” for future projects.

  • Collaborate with the Belgian engineering team (4 FTE) and ensure alignment on standards, processes, and best practices.

  • Offer technical support to construction teams, and translate operational feedback into better designs.

What Do You Bring?

  • At least 8 years of experience as an electrical engineer in industrial (medium to high-voltage) installations (>20kV).

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or industrial automation.

  • Experience with functional coordination of external engineering or contracting parties.

  • Analytical skills and preferably a basic knowledge of statistics for investment analysis.

  • A team player with excellent communication skills. You can express yourself professionally in both Dutch and English.

  • A flexible mindset and willingness to travel within the Netherlands and monthly to Belgium.

What Makes This Role Unique?

  • You are involved from start to finish in every project, from initial site assessment to financial close.

  • You play a key role in defining the technical standards for a new generation of energy projects.

  • You work in a broad, varied role: every site is different, every challenge unique.

  • You directly contribute to the sustainability of the Dutch energy system.

What Do We Offer?

  • An independent, strategic engineering role within an innovative scale-up.

  • A competitive salary with 8% holiday allowance and a 7–9% year-end bonus.

  • Electric lease car (including charging and parking costs).

  • 28 vacation days.

  • Hybrid working possible (head office in Amstelveen).

  • Development budget (€750 p/y) and solid pension scheme (2/3 employer contribution).

  • Laptop and net phone allowance (€25 p/m).
