About the job

As our Head of Operations, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the technical and operational backbone of our battery energy infrastructure in the Netherlands. Reporting directly to the Chief Operational Officer (COO), you’ll be leading the Technical Asset team of four people while also steering cross-functional collaboration across IT, Finance, and other key departments. You’ll be the one ensuring the technical continuity of our assets. Ensuring the plant stays operational is ultimately your responsibility. Your work is as much about building future-proof systems as it is about safeguarding today’s performance.

In this role, you develop and deliver annual operational plans, business cases, and budget proposals that drive long-term performance (typically with a 1 to 2-year strategic horizon). Together with the engineering team (led by the lead engineer) and the realization team, you steer towards the optimal balance between CAPEX and OPEX costs.

While you benefit from established guidelines and a senior team with deep operational experience, you’ll also face new, evolving challenges, whether it’s integrating next-gen battery technologies or navigating shifting regulatory landscapes. You will decide when to scale your in-house capabilities and when to partner externally, always with an eye on efficiency, innovation, quality and control. This is a role for someone who combines strategic vision with strong technical insight and thrives in a fast-changing environment.

Your focus in the first year

• Professionalizing the Technical Asset Management department by introducing advanced procurement and reporting systems.

• Expanding and structuring the team to support our growth ambitions, ensuring the right people are in the right roles.

• Assessing in-house capabilities and explore outsourcing possibilities for 24/7 monitoring and incident management.

• Facilitate smooth operations and effective communication with key stakeholders, including off-takers, grid operators, and suppliers, while ensuring contracts are properly negotiated and well managed.

• Acts as the sparring partner for IT, guiding them in the next steps for improving/ buying the (monitoring) software used in daily operations

What you bring

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, or in a related technical field.

• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in operations or asset management within the energy sector, with demonstrable success in leading teams and managing complex operations.

• Familiarity with HV/MV infrastructure, grid-connected systems, and the dynamics of renewable energy.

• Strong analytical and strategic planning capabilities, with a pragmatic and hands-on leadership style.

• Comfortable working in a fast-evolving sector where innovation, regulation, and technology shift rapidly.
